Just curious what those of you who currently live in TR do.

We are considering a move there and are very concerned about the water, mainly because one of the aquifiers for United Water is very close to one of the superfund sites.

Are there any whole house filtration systems that you would make you feel safer about using the water?

thanks for any opinions/advice you may have!

This topic has been covered before. Here is a link to one of the threads you could search this forum for additional info.

I live in TR. I am a cancer survivor...got it before moving to TR. I don't trust United Water but I do drink the water now - I can't afford bottled water anymore.

This brings up something else. I notice the water at the fountains and in the restrooms of Jakes Branch has a sulfur smell. Is this a problem with NJ water in general?

We've lived in Tr for over 25 years and never give it a second thought- I would venture to guess that 75% of the residents would have absolutely no idea what you are even referring to. On the other hand- why would you even consider moving someplace that has something that bothers you? Every time you turn on the water it will bother you- that's no way to live- and by the way there is no sulfur smell- although I have no idea where or what "Jakes Branch" is

Jakes Branch is a new park located on Double Trouble Rd. in Beachwood, dedicated on February 26, 2009.

I thought Beachwood did get their water from the same source(s) as Toms River.

Its possible that park is running off well water the (sulfur smell) not city pipe water.

No, it's not. I've never encountered water with a sulfur smell in southern NJ. I poked around and found that it can come from old galvanized pipes, lack of aeration or iron in the water, among other reasons.

My Aunt used well water and her water had a lot of iron in it and it smelled like iron, not sulphur. There are homes by the shore/Toms River area that have water that smells like sulphur. . .egg odor?. . .and it has more to do with bacteria. Just my experience. . .
