From NY but now live in Jersey and don't see what the problem is.

I chimed in just to put your number in perspective: while a lot of people probably would have guessed that more than 300,000 people live in NJ and work in NYC, that is still a lot of people for each side. NJ's state population is only a bit higher than NYC's, so it's probably something like 7% or so of the working population of the entire state of NJ works in NYC.
