Real Estate Prices in Silver City? (Roy: homes, job market, per square foot)

Anyone know if Silver City real estate listings close at prices close to their ask?

At first glance, Silver City's real estate prices seem awfully high given its market fundamentals. There are pages and pages of residential listings, most north of $100 per square foot. Land is plentiful. SC's job market is heavily dependent on the service sector and, except for the regional medical center, is not driven by a lot of highly-paid professionals.

Is there another factor that keeps prices high?

It's the artsy-fartsy-crowd that owns real estate (not to omit the real estate agents) that are artificially drumming up Silver City real estate prices. They're just drumming up interesting business. There's no real reason that real estate should cost that much in a town like that. It is in a beautiful setting near Gila National Forest. It has a nice setting going for it, that's for sure.
