Do you pay an "association" for water?

How much are you allowed to have per month?

Do you pay monthly dues?

Are you allowed to go to water associaton meetings?

Big problem "boiling" in the western part of NM.

Interesting post. In 'Zozo, have a single bill for water, sewer, and trash pickup, and amounts to about $60 per month. But 1 huge issue locally is several people have elected not to pay their water bills (I won't mention the ethnic group involved) and have received "special dispensation" from the city administration. This has resulted in a budget shortfall of about $90,000 per year, and of course the infrastructure is showing the decline. Last year a list of these non-paying recipients was published in the local paper, receiving the not unexpected outrage, but of course no new receipts. So guess who gets to pick up the slack. This is shaping up to be a huge issue for the local election and certainly not fair for the responsible paying residents.

Anyone else having similar issues, or is this unique to this post-apocalyptic town??

How much was the town owed by the people not paying? Do you get good service when you have water leak repairs etc.?

Hi yb, according to the latest town hall report, the $90k is the outstanding balance owed by the non payers, so there ya go. Really, the city does an excellent job of fixing the leaks (had one right before Christmas and the guys jumped right on that) and doing great with what they have to work with. But money has to come from somewhere and they were unable to give any raises for 2010 for the hardworking staff. Not fair!!

Yes, we pay an association $25 per month. There is a limit for usage but it is very high. The total cost per month, on top of the dues, is based on water used and the rate is stepped. In other words the first amount is so much per gallon then the rate per gallon increases and then steps up again. Yes, we can attend the asscoiation meetings.

Hogfarmer - What is so special about the folks that they can avoid water bills? Do they not drink or do they have their own water source and rights? Just curious.

The set fee for the water bill in Timberon is about 25 dollars monthly plus however much water you use, pay above that.
The water bill is getting ready to increase, probably double soon for some mistakes the water dept. made in the past and for some problems a few people are causing as far as suing the water company.
There is a water board meeting once a month and the public is allowed to attend the meetings and speak out.

In Ruidoso we pay approximately $100 per month for water, sewer and garbage which includes pine needle and tree branch pickup as long as we get it street side. Included is approximately a $ 30 charge for the new waste water plant which still hasn't been built yet. There have been a lot of complaints about the water plant charge.

I just received our bill from Ruidoso today. We pay a little over $21 per month for the water only.
