Kermit Ruffins, Zion Harmonizers, Rockin Dopsie headline Gentilly Fest | NOLA.com
Gentilly Fest at Pontchartrain Park, this Weekend October 9 & 10, 2010

Bring your family and friends with you. It's always a fun event.

"This year, the festival boasts a main stage musical lineup that includes trumpeter Kermit Ruffins on Saturday and zydeco mainstay Rockin' Dopsie Jr. on Sunday. In addition to music, there will be a crafts market and classic New Orleans foods, from Lil' Dizzy's fried chicken and Vaucresson's crawfish sausage, to tamales, pralines, snowballs and shrimp from more than a dozen vendors."

What: The free festival features food, music, a gospel tent, kids activities and health screenings, with proceeds going to Pontchartrain Park and Milne Playground sports programs, the Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp and first-responders.

When: Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m.

Where: Pontchartrain Park, corner of Press and Prentiss drives, just off Leon C. Simon Boulevard.

Parking: Secure parking is available for $5 at Gentilly Mall at the corner of Gentilly Boulevard and Press Drive. A free shuttle will transport attendees between the lot and festival. For details, visit gentillyfest.org.
