So, I'm a 25-year-old white gay male, and will be moving to New Orleans with my partner (who is a 27-year-old black male) in June. He works at O'Reilly Auto Parts, and is being tasked with helping to open up a store in Jefferson. We're looking to spend $950 or less on rent.

We're looking for a neighborhood that is racially diverse and affordable, but also a place that isn't Disneyfied or hyper-gentrified and isn't looking to be. Ideally a place that is gay-friendly (but it doesn't necessarily need to have gay bars or lots of other gay people, ect).

We don't want to live in the suburbs, or in a suburban environment, so ideally a we're looking for a place within the city. We're both avid bicycle riders, and it would be nice to be able to bike or take the bus most places, with occasional car trips to larger grocery stores or work, if necessary.

Also, could someone tell me about Pigeon Town/P-Town? Would that neighborhood fit our criteria?

Honestly I would try MidCity or the area around the Fairgrounds racecourse. Pigeon Town is not especially diverse and kind of rough. I would also keep in mind that from my observations and the observations of many of my friends who are gay the African American community in New Orleans tends to be much less accepting/tolerant of LBGT than other communities. I have no hard facts to back that up just, as I said opinions of friends and observations from people I have worked with and know socially. I also think that you may want to look at the area closer to Carrollton and the River which is known as the "Black Pearl"

Edit: Scratch that I was confusing pigeon town with gerttown. P town would not be too bad of a place. I would however try to look closer to Carrollton avenue.
