I'd be obscenely materialistic, hire a promoter to show how glamorous and glorious I am, brag to high heaven about having a lot of money, and get all the ladies I can - and have them photographed with me besides! I'd also buy the finest hand-crafted Persian rugs and use them for doormats. Yes, if I'm THAT rich, then I can do whatever I damned well please, and be as tacky as can - and not give a damn about what ANYbody thinks.

Just kidding, people. I would probably keep enough for myself to live at a realistically humane lifestyle, probably a little bit more. Possibly enough to travel moderately often. Then donate the rest to various charities, academic research, maybe seed money for microlending in the nation's poorest areas. But even $1 bn is a drop in the bucket. Even Buffet, Gates, and Bezos combined can only make a very limited impact on the world - even if it's necessary to make a little bit of an impact. Still, a jillion "littles" is a lot. So using billions to reduce badness in society is a responsible thing to do.

Save it, then hire a financial advisor with a proven track record to help me grow it further.

Make a hefty donation to St.Judes, Shriners and other children's hospitals. Pay off our bills. Make sure our kids are set up. BUT can't touch the money until they're 25. That way they'll have to work and learn some responsibility. Pay our mom's bills too. Take a long road trip, visiting all the lower 48, and yea, drive to Alaska. Hire an accountant and financial advisor.

First thing I would do is donate a portion to my home church in my old neighborhood, then give some to my parents to fix up their current home (my parents home is among the largest and well kept on their block) or buy a new one. I would give some to my closest loved ones, then I would invest $400 million with a guaranteed return of 12%-15%, and live on the interest. The rest I would put in the bank. My woman and I would buy a big home in Jersey Village or in NW Houston, and use her current home as a rental property to generate more income.

I assure you being that rich that one rental property would be more of a hassle lol.

I would influence the state and eventually the country into Medicaid for all, taxpayer funded tuition for all public institutions, and to end the drug war. I would invest into all the major cities and their poorest neighborhoods with schools, libraries, new affordable housing, and jobs that pay a living wage.

I'd also buy an island for myself.
