Never been in a building without a trash chute before until now so I've never paid attention to trash collection. Trash day is Tue and Fri. Recycling is Tue. Nobody uses cans...just bags along the curb.

1) How do I separate trash from recycling when there are no cans/bins? It looks like people put trash at the curb and recycling by their door. Is this the correct method? It doesn't look like people use different color bags or mark them in any way.

2) Is there a specific time to put trash out? I mean more specific than "Monday night". I see people put it out every day of the week at all times day or night but I'm assuming that's b/c there are so many businesses. I don't know what apartment residents are actually supposed to do. Can't ask my neighbors as they don't appear to speak any English.

Thanks.

Ask the building management or the super.

Basically you'd put your trash/recycling out on the curb on Monday and Thursday night (after 5:00 pm) if your collection days are Tuesday and Friday. I put recycling in transparent blue bags which can usually be found right near the black garbage bags at the store. They'll even say "recycling bags" on the box sometimes.

Thanks UrbanAdventurer. Feels like a dumb question, but the landlord/super don't live in the building and the only other tenants don't speak English at all, so I had nobody to ask.

Ok...so out after 5pm. Do they start coming around as early as midnight? I'm often either working or out during the 5pm-midnight hours. If I get it out at 2am am I going to miss the trucks? Or does the time vary too greatly from one area to the next to know for sure unless I actually see them?
