Hi,

I recently moved to NYC (LOVE IT so far), but my hub and I are getting SO stressed because of our dog. Because of the city's lack of grassy patches and crazy weather, we decided to re-train him on puppy pads indoors.

But he's too well-trained! He won't go!!! We put newspapers down, puppy pads, marked with his pee and he won't go!

Check that, he went once when we were out and we gave him a treat. He went again this morning, while I was home and I praised him and gave him treats.

Still I can tell he's gotta go bad, but he's waiting for us. And he hasn't gone #2 indoors at all.

We're really racking our brains here. Any advice to help him go indoors?

Why don't you just take him outside? He doesn't have to go on grass. My dogs in ohio used to dig a path in the snow to go to the bathroom. Dogs don't mind the weather.

Why are you torturing him when he is already trained to go outside ?
Just take him out on whatever his regular schedule was.

I've got to agree with everyone else. Take the dog out so he can do his business. Dogs also need to be walked 1-2 times a day. You should really think about finding another home for him if this is something you can't do.

Eww!! As a dog owner and lover, I cannot figure out why you're torturing your dog (and his bladder). Take him outside 2-3x a day like every other dog owner in NYC does. They adapt quickly and will learn to go on sidewalk, grass, gravel- whatever's available.

Agreed, my dog especially loves the winter, she even wanted go out after the blizzards last winter. I only don't take her out when it's raining hard or it's very windy.

So cute! I love seeing my dogs in the snow. They are all "toy" sized so they have to kind of hop until theres a path. Also it would be funny to see them walking on top of frozen snow then falling through the snow at one point then hopping along. I miss my doggies!

WTH?

Why would you do this to your dog?
He's well-trained and does not want to go in his 'den.'
You're probably upsetting him...and confusing the crud out of him.

Take a scooper and some bags and GO FOR A WALK.

As the owner of 2 dogs, I keep racking my brain trying to figure out what the heck you're doing. It makes no sense. The dog is suffering. Take the doggie outside like everyone else! By the way, just in case you didn't know, the dogs in the city go on the sidewalk, if anything, you need to train him to go there if he's accustomed to grass.
