Hello I am planning on moving to Queens soon due to a job working at JFK airport. I will be relying on public transportation. I make between 30-40k per year. My girlfriend will be splitting the rent, costs etc. I'm assuming she will make 45k or more. We were thinking of moving to Astoria not sure if the rents are reasonable ? Any info will be appreciated

Astoria is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in Queens (as it is close to Manhattan). You could probably get a 1BR there for around $1500, depending on size and proximity to trains.

If you're working at JFK, why not move closer to JFK, to somewhere like Ozone Park or Richmond Hill? Much cheaper there than Astoria. Commuting from Astoria to JFK would be a huge pain on public transportation (or by car).

I think alot of the flight attendants live in Kew Gardens. Check it out. There's a subway and should be cheaper than Astoria.

South Jamaica would be one of the inexpensive and quite near JFK. It's not an quality tier nabe but it's perhaps what you're looking for. Cheaper and nearby

I would suggest Glendale in Southern Queens.

That might be good if your girlfriend is commuting to Manhattan.

Glendale and Kew Gardens are both decent areas and are easy to comute to the airport from. Maybe Middle Village aswell.

Don't move to South Jamaica.
