I think you could find a decent amount of areas in Jersey City that look like that.
no im aware of what staten island has but i only agree with the OP on a location level. I just think JC has easier access to the rest of nyc compared to staten.
Please vote to allow us to leave! I'd love for SI to keep its property taxes, a share of the tolls which currently fund projects outside of SI, ditch the city school system which is a disaster, fund a PD and FD appropriate for its population, take over the ferry and charge non-island residents, stop paying taxes for the city hospital system that we don't get to participate in along with the transit we don't get... The benefits to Staten Island are innumerable, which is why the City has been the one to fight against secession in Albany whenever we attempted it in the past (do some research, it's true). I'd actually be staying here if SI was not part of NYC.
Asking about JC is plain ridiculous and mere transplant talk for those who came to the area and landed there because they couldn't afford the city. Very few actual NJ natives would want to join NYC.
If New York wanted to make this trade, they should have done it in the 80's, when there wasn't a decent part of Jersey City. Now the price has gone up, and we'll be wanting a chunk of Rockland County as well. Also you have to take Bayonne.
Why can't people just get this through their thick scull. NYC is comprised of 5 (count them, 5!) boroughs. And all of them are NEW YORK CITY. This includes; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.
Seriously, that's the way it has been for 100+ plus years and I don't see it changing one bit anytime soon. Get the idea that Staten Island is not NYC and that Jersey City somehow is (or should be) out of your head.

It's very simple folks.
I could agree with you that things aren't about to change any time soon. But to say it's been this way for more than a century is to ignore the two centuries that preceded it. There was no such thing as the five borough city until January 1, 1898. (And it took a rigged election in Brooklyn to make that happen, in the second place).
As to the poster who suggested that nobody would want to join New York City, I don't think that's true. A city might have to give up its municipal independence to become a borough, but there are factors such as prestige to consider--and you'd have to have your head buried in the sand to say there's no prestige involved. And also that New York City maintains a real estate tax that's been artificially lower than the surrounding counties for many years.
We don't really want Staten Island. What's there that it has going for it?
it's an island city, just like the rest of nyc, except for the bronx.
