Hi all,
quick question, Im currentlylooking for a sublet in NYC for the summer. Im looking in Williamsburg as I have been told that its a good place for reasonable rent with access to midtown manhattan. Im also looking at the lower east side though it seems more pricey.

Im just wondering what the average rent of a 1 bed sublet in those areas would be? Ive seen some ranging from $800 to $4000 per month! I just want to make sure I'm not being ripped off!

Thanks

Williamsburg has access to Lower Manhattan and not so much midtown Manhattan.

the M goes directly to midtown. And L and then switching to another line doesn't take long.

Ah ok, Im a New York newbie so I might be mistaken, I should rephrase my question; If I wanted to spend $1,200-$1,400 for a studio or 1 bed, and I needed easy access to my job at West 51st St at 5th Avenue, what neighbourhoods should I be looking in? And is that rent unrealistic?
Thanks!

Look in the Queens neighborhoods of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Elmhurst, and Jackson Heights. This will give you an easy commute with the N, Q, E, F, M, R, and 7 trains. The rent of $1,200 to $1,400 per month is realistic for these neighborhoods that I have listed.

This is very good advice.

I second this.

You MAY be able to find a small studio for that much in Williamsburg but the odds of it being nice are slim. You may have better luck in neighboring Greenpoint but even that is pretty much close to Williamsburg rents now.

Thanks, Il look in those areas!
Lets say my budget was a bit more elastic, how high would I need to go to have any chance of affording somewhere in Manhattan (that isnt in the middle of Harlem)?
