A question for other fellow natives (non-natives welcome to chime in, of course):

If you were leaving NYC for good and had a few months to do what you didn't get around to doing while you lived there, what would it be? I'm referring to places to eat/visit or some sort of venue unique to NYC.

To make things easy, I'm pasting in thread suggestions below (so you don't have to read the whole thread if it gets long)

  • Go inside the Statue of Liberty - suggestion from Coney
  • Visit the Cloisters and the Botanical Gardens- suggestion from ohiogirl22
  • Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and take a dip in in Coney Island - suggestion from Bronxguyanese
  • Visit the High Line- suggestion from Chava61

This is an excellent question. I would go inside the Statue of Liberty. I've never done it. I went to Ellis Island once (post 9/11)and at the time, the Statue of Liberty was closed to visitors.

I've never done this either. I've seen her a million times from afar but never set foot. I'm adding it to my list

I've STILL wanted to see the Cloisters and the Botanical Gardens. I have lived here for over 2 years and I still havent made my way up.

Both are great, I've visited them a few times. The cloisters should not be missed! Definitely make time for it when you can, it's so worth it.

FOr me is to take the oppurtunity to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and take a dip in in Coney Island. I regret not getting a chance to visit Shea Stadium before it was knocked down. The last thing I would do is have sex with a NYC girl for the last time before I was to ever leave, thats something I havent been with in a while because my prefrences for easy going and heavly laidback transplant women.

Here's a few things on my list:

1) Take a wild food foraging and mushroom hunting class with Wildman Steve Brill
2) Eat at the Ukrainian National Home Restaurant and Streecha
3) Ride on the Central Park Carousel (I did that as a kid, I should do it again before I move)
4) Visit the Brighton Beach neighborhood to check out the slavic stores and restaurants
5) Get dim-sum at Jing Fong
6) Rent a boat on the Central Park Boat Lake instead of doing my best to ignore the people humping in the bushes in the Ramble.
7) Visit that seafood restaurant on City Island that everyone says is great... Forget the name..
8) Carve my name into a bench in Thompson Square Park
