Alright guys. I need some help on the FDNY. I want to join them but I am from Ireland and want to move to NYC to join the FDNY. Can this be done and if so how. I would also like to know if it would be possible for me to live in a nice appartment in Manhattan but I dont know if it is affordable. Do you guys know any FDNY members who live in Manhattan and if it is worth the money. I would like to join a station in Manhattan but I dont know how. Any answers would be helpful. I am sorry if some of these questions seem stupid but I really dont have a clue because I am not from NYC or America. Will an Irish firefighter in NYC find it easy do you think like with the people or will they all hate me for coming over and taking a job that another American could have. Its pretty much like that all over the place with us Irish at the moment because of our economy.
Sorry for all the writing.
Thanks.
You missed the application period in the summer last year. They're actually giving the test as we speak. There won't be another one for about 4 years unfortunately. What you could do is look into getting onto EMS, where you will eventually be able to promote to firefighter. Just google FDNY, go to their main site, hit 'career opportunities', and you'll find out info about everything on both EMS and fire.
Oh and Manhattan is not really happening for anyone unless you have a really good amount of money, are on welfare, or don't mind living in crappy areas with QOL issues. Civil servants in this city do not live in nice areas of manhattan. There may be literally a few, but it's far from the norm.
Thanks for the info. Thats the sort of thing I was looking for
