My wife and I are going to be visiting the city and need accomodations on the 7th and 8th of Sept. Can anyone reccommend a place we could stay that is but fairly central but not too expensive? It would be nice just to park the car for the 2 days and be able to walk to whatever we want to see. After we leave NY city we are going to Atlantic city for a week.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You do realize you have to pay for parking, and it isn't cheap.

If you don't mind a bit of a connection to Manhattan, i.e., a subway, I would look in Jersey City as you can take the PATH train to Manhattan, and then walk/bus/subway to where you want to go. You would likely have to pay extra for parking in Jersey City as many hotels do charge, but the rates are much lower than Manhattan. Room rate should come in around that range, but depends upon availability.

If you do not mind a slightly more out of the way hotel, the Doubletree Fort Lee would be a consideration. Parking is complimentary, and you can take a shuttle bus across the George Washington Bridge and connect with the subway to get to other areas of Manhattan. You should get a good rate at that hotel, and it is convenient for travel by car, both arriving, and then on your way to Atlantic City.

I suggest that you check out hotels in Long Island City, Queens (just across the East River from Manhattan). This is a short subway ride from Midtown Manhattan and probably would be easier to park a car than in Manhattan.

Consider www.airbnb.com. The usual arrangement is you rent a room in someone's apartment by the day (or week) but sometimes the rental is for a whole apartment.
Prices are good and you can pick your area.

If museums are most important, choose the UES. If music, choose Lincoln Center area. If theater, try staying close to Broadway/Times Suqare. If bar-hopping, then either the East or West Village.

(I just got a giggle...advertising 8 minutes from Times Square, address 36th Street IN UNION CITY, NY. Presumably that 8 minutes is BY JET.)
