I think its the toughest job in the world and I've always admired them. When it comes to making a living, running into burning buildings just isn't something I could ever see myself doing, so I really salute those guys who can. They are the bravest.
I don't have a link for it, but our soulless POS little troll of a mayor used the press conference that was intended to simply announce the death of the Lt. to start spouting off his administration's perceived "achievements" with response times. What kind of moron does that? Spouting off statistics and whatnot. Completely out of line. And he couldn't even have the decency to speak the names of and wish well the other guys who were hurt at this job, 2 of them seriously. The contempt that this a-hole has for the average guy is beyond anything I've ever witnessed.

Yea I read about that also in one of the articles that spoke about the tragedy... Seeing that story really saddened me though... Whenever a firefighter loses their life it's sad but just seeing the way people spoke about him and the way his family and friends in his neighborhood cared about him so much, he seemed like a real nice guy...
Btw, how anyone can defend Bloomberg at all is beyond me... When I read what you spoke about I got sick to my stomach... I dont know how any of the firefighters that were there during the press conference didn't clock him in the face... Jail would've been worth it IMO...
Sad to lose this guy..17 years! It was interesting that they indicated that since Nov 2008, only 2 other firefighters have died in the line of duty (1 in 2008, 1 in 2009, and this one in 2012)....for a total of 3 in about 4.5 years. I read there are approx 11,500 firefighters in NYC (Not sure though).

What are you getting at? Those stats only take into account LODD's. I don't have the stats off hand that show the numerous guys who have died and are slowly dying from ailments stemming from 9/11 and the job itself.
It is an interesting factual..it would be interesting if 0 died, or 1,000 died. You are looking for a problem that does not exist. Move on.
