I have read in the police beat of my local paper for years and years of push in robberies, street assaults, hold ups of people in cars, gunpoint and knifepoint robberies all in the area between Sedgwick and Lehman Collage between the reservoir and Kingsbridge Rd

this section doesn't even look bad

am I aware of this just because i read of it in the paper? is it the same thing(crimes against residents) farther east around Jerome and the Concourse?

I moved to the Riverdale/ Kingsbridge area in 1991 and even in 91 i was reading the same type of stories in the same paper. So it had to have been bad then too.

I think the problem in that area, and I have heard about crime there for years, from people in my family, and friends of the family who used to own/operate their own apartments in the area. What I think is the main culprit, is the shaded streets, long blocks with no cross streets, and streets that curve.

Even by the reservoir, itself, there is much cover from which one could perpetrate a crime, and I do believe there are security escorts available for the far parking lots at Lehman at night, or anywhere on campus at night. While this is common at many institutions of higher education in many different types of areas, I know from someone who taught at Lehman that they would not walk back to the car alone, and asked for security escort, even when walking with others that they knew.

Lax policing by the 50 precinct so prices go RE prices go down, so developers can gobble up prime RE.

It's not on the same level as it is east of Jerome. That same neighborhood, east of Jerome, is one of the highest crime rate areas in the city. I never thought that area was that bad, but apparently it is easily the worst part of the 50th precinct.

I wonder what is the history of that neighborhood. Did it suffer abandonement, white flight?

It's the SOUTH BRONX.

Why are you acting brand new like you don't know this?

There are 4 neighborhoods in the US that will NEVER gentrify. They are Compton, Watts, East LA and the SOUTH BRONX. They will always be crime ridden, unless the powers that be come in the middle of the night and take all of the poor out by force.
