I'm a journalism student at Columbia University writing about the scheduled 2013 funding cuts for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH funds hundreds of American medical centers and provides thousands of research grants.
I'm hoping to speak to people from New York who's suffered from a serious illness and recovered through hospital care, perhaps through new or experimental medicines or treatments. Their stories might demonstrate the importance of funding medical research and care in New York, and how real people benefit.
