Hi all,

What is the neighbourhood like around West 39th St, between 8th and 9th Ave?

And what about East 30th St, between 2nd Ave and Park Ave South?

Thanks a lot

Are you asking in respect of your upcoming visit that you posted about elsewhere (bus from Port Authority to Lake Placid)? If so, I imagine your query is in regard to hotel accommodation in the area. I'm not a native New Yorker ... I'm a fellow Aussie... but I've stayed in hotels around that general area and felt perfectly comfortable and safe there! In fact, if you're doing touristy things, I think you'll feel safe pretty much everywhere in Manhattan!

The East 30th location is a lot nicer than the West 39th St location.
West 39th isn't really dangerous but it's a little desolate and a little creepy at night.
East 30th is more of a neighborhood with shops, restaurants, evening street life, etc.

Thanks heaps. Yeah, my queries were in relation to hotel accommodation. We'll only be in West 39th St for one night, and then we are coming back later in our travels to stay in East 30th St for 5 nights. I think we'll manage for the one night in West 39th. Close to Port authority to catch our bus the next morning....

Both are perfectly fine for hotels. You should not have any concerns regarding particular safety, though the blocks to the west of 9th-10th can be more desolate at night, so they might not be recommended for strolling late at night.

This is a thread asking about a neighborhood where someone is staying in a hotel. It says nothing about 80/20

Perhaps read the thread before you decide to hijack it, if you would've done so you would se you comment doesn't belong here and would've search the appropriate thread to hijack!
