I always wondered about this but until I joined this site I didn't know where to ask. Does the FDNY allow some personnel to take marked vehicles home? A few blocks away from me there is an FDNY support vehicle frequency parked outside a home at night. It seems to me it is wrong to use an official FDNY vehicle for personal commuting unless maybe the person is on call and would go to emergency situations if called. Anyone know if there is a policy on this? It is not parked anywhere near a firehouse.

Both the NYPD and FDNY allow certain people to take department cars home. Very likely they are in "stand by" so they have to respond ASAP. And no they don't get paid till they get the call.

OK thanks. It's just that I don't see that often elsewhere and the first few times I saw it I thought there was some emergency but then noticed it was just parked. This particular vehicle wasn't a car it was some type of emergency support vehicle but I don't know enough about it to further describe it.

I'm a NYC taxpayer that's why. A firefighter taking home an emergency vehicle for personal use just seems like the wrong use of resources to me.

All this guys does is spy on his neighbors business. Shows you what kind of life he has. He also enjoys taping WFAN radio 24/7 and then posting it on youtube.

I'm also a nyc tax payer and I could care less. As long as when or if my house is burning down they are there ASAP. I could care less if they take a road trip in it. Stop worrying about whether the car is on stand-by and worry about how fast they'll get to your house in case of a fire. Nosey.

But it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

Hell, I'm not an FDNY fan (for reasons I won't go into or else Availableusername will be in here "schooling" me again Lol), but as long as the truck isn't violating YOUR space, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.

And I hate when people have to tell you they're a "taxpayer".

WE'RE ALL TAXPAYERS.

Why don't you ever call 311 and ask them this stuff? You always complain about things and never contact the authorities.
