Got this from the web.
Work on Flushing Commons, the large mixed-use development, has not only affected area businesses but the historic church next door as well.
“Construction has impacted the congregation,” said the Rev. Richard McEachern, senior pastor of the approximately 300-member Macedonia AME Church.
The house of worship, located at 37-22 Union St., is on one side of the $1 billion project that is also bounded by 138th Street and 37th and 39th avenues. So while construction work — which began officially in June — continues through 2021, the 203-year-old congregation will have to put up with noise, dirt and a definite hemmed-in feeling.
The church was founded in 1811 by freed black slaves, Native Americans and poor whites. It is the third-oldest church in Flushing.
Although 1,144 parking spaces remain during construction, using them is no longer free at certain times. The site previously served as a municipal parking lot and parking was free on Sunday and for some evening hours.
McEachern noted that parking is at a premium in the neighborhood and that there are a lot of seniors in the congregation who find it difficult to walk long distances to the church.
“We haven’t been vocal about the problem,” he said. “We knew it had to happen during construction and we want to be a good neighbor.”
McEachern said the church has a good working relationship with the Flushing Commons developers “and we are trying to work things out with them.”
The remaining piece of the former municipal lot is being developed by the church. It has constructed a 14-story, 142-unit affordable housing structure located adjacent to the house of worship.
It was completed months ago, but the city is taking its time in making inspections before giving the project a certificate of occupancy. McEachern is hoping the paperwork will be completed soon.
More than 40,000 applications were received by the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Default Update on Macedonia

I have a friend who received a letter from this development. She was given an appointment for interview for August 25, 2014. That day she was told that she needed to gather some documents and come back in one week, she inmediately replied "only one week??, one week is not enough to gather all documents, but the customer service representative (wasn't very nice ) told her " you only have one week ". Of course she didn't have the documents ready in one week. She called, left a message but she hasn't received any call or letter. I know this development is beautiful. I think at I this point she cannot do anything because a month already passed and they told her that if she would have had the documents ready she could have had the apartment inmediately because they were being occupied this month.

I would like to post a question for myself, I have been called for an interview for another apartment (not in this building) but my concern is if I am being selected for an apartment and I have already signed the lease for my current apartment this year (on August), how do I tell my landlord or how do I handle this because my landlord is a company from Brooklyn and they are very bad landlords..... I don't know if they will allow me to break my lease.... any recommendation or suggestion ? Please...

I would'nt tell the Landlord yet it's too soon an interview does not guarantee you an apartment and even if you do get it may take time for you to move in like it's happening to us. Now if it comes down to it and you are ready to ove in you would have to decide whether the deal you are getting on this new apartment is worth breaking the lease and loosing you deposit.

Did some digging around on the NYC Dept. of Buildings site and based on the address of the building, it has only had two inspections. One on 05/16/2014, where it was deemed "Not Ready" and the most recent inspection was 08/15/2014 where it is listed as having "Outstanding Objections". There are 80 requirements for obtaining a Final Certificate of Occupancy, the Macedonia Plaza complex as of tonight - 10/03/2014 only requires 25!! Looking at them listed, they have to be done if the building is truly complete...I'm sure we are all only waiting for a final inspection date, which is actually not listed either. Sucks...but, just in case anyone else would like to review this info that's publicly listed, the address is 37-08 Union Street, Job # & CO(Certificate of Occupancy) Application Number: 420125304, BIN: 4595429.

=)

Hi all! I check this forum every day. I am also waiting to be called for moving in. I can't wait!!!! Thanks so much n1ne for this info. On the same website that you suggest I saw that from today until the 11th, they will be finishing the carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring and clean-up.

I understood your explanation and I am less anxious now. This can take months....
