Hello: I am from Illinois and staying at a hotel in NJ attending concert at Madison Square Garden this winter. How hard is it to get a cab after a late night concert? Should I just rent a car and park there and drive back to NJ after? What's the best way you think to get back to NJ after a big concert at MSG?

Thanks,

NJ Transit train, right downstairs. Where in NJ are you staying?

Depends where in NJ you are. Could be easy as a train or bus, could need a car.

Parking in or around MSJ will be a nightmare (street) and expensive (garage). That is unless you go park out of the area (say below 30th Street anywhere from Seventh to about Third Avenue) and then either walk or take a cab to MSG. That or go uptown or downtown and ditto.

There will be taxis in or around MSG after concert ends or if you decide to go for a meal or drinks afterwards. You also may want to consider Uber.

If you are at all planning to have drinks before or after the concert I'd ditch the rental car option and just go with taking a taxi or Uber/Lyft. In fact renting just to drive into Manhattan for a concert doesn't make sense IMHO. That is unless you have plans to do other things with the vehicle before turning it back in. The hassles of parking both in NJ and NYC plus tolls and other costs will come to more than taxi/Uber fare.
