Yes, true...many will never be able to leave NYC. They are stuck sucking the teat of government services.

Yes, NY is riding a little high now probably because of Bloombergs pro-business policies but lets face it...NYC is becoming nothing more than a sewer of professional poor servicing the needs of the very well-to-do while the struggling middle class are slowly sapped of their soul.

Repped as you said some very good things. The well to do all have their country estates where they spend considerable time in (as well as homes elsewhere). I agree through overwork, constantly higher real estate prices, and ridiculous commutes the struggling middle class is being sapped of it's soul.

Do you see any political solution towards this, or anything that can be done to change this? Go beyond partisan politics and beyond things such as increase or decrease taxes. What can be done?

Unless the government puts out some mandatory edict of some sort, I will NEVER live in the DEEP SOUTH.

There are huge swaths of this country where extreme slowness and ignorance is beyond anything someone who was born and raised in NYC can understand or even deal with.

I would literally have to be an outlaw on the run in need of a secure hiding place that NO ONE would think to look for me. Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama are places you go when you want to disappear off the face of the earth or DIE.

If you're a New Yorker that is.

I had big plans for us, marilyn. It involved a lakefront house, a couple rescue pups, and soundproof walls in the bedroom. This news disturbs me...

Leave out the rescue pups and this sounds like the plot to a horror flick.

I feel that casually dismissing and denigrating states that have such a large percentage of Blacks is offensive and appalling, especially coming from a fellow Black. How do you feel when other posters say bad things about African Americans? If it's unacceptable to be prejudiced on the basis of race and nationality, it's is also unacceptable to be prejudiced on the basis of state or region. Just because you have no intention of going to the deep South does not mean you have to put down the region or say insulting things about the people there. You could say it's not for you.

For the record, I'm a New Yorker who has been to the Deep South many times, and I will be there again in the future. So you certainly don't speak for all New Yorkers there. I've been in rural areas before, I've driven pick up trucked and liked it, I've hiked in the woods and on mountain trails (did all this in upstate New York too), etc.

I never said it was. But just as it isn't cool to bash entire countries or races of people, it's not cool to bash entire states entire. That doesn't mean you have to want to live in a particular place. But that can be expressed without saying hateful things that would have broad condemnations if they were said about whole races of people.

You can simply just say you don't like TN, for example. No need to resort to name calling.
