Is anyone familiar with the 7 train? Does it run from PABT to GCT?

YES, the shuttle (S) does as well between 6am and midnight. The 7 if not under construction runs 24/7.

Depending on destination the 7 can be a much shorter station walk than the shuttle (S) to and from the East Side IRT.
I always use the 7 when I can.

The shuttle sucks because it's small and always cramped, and kind of useless if you need to get off anywhere between Grand Central and Times Square.

Why would you take the 7 from Times Square or Grand Central to 5th Avenue? Just walk at that point.

Because then you have to deal with all the stupid tourists that won't look away from their smartphones when they're walking and block your path and it doesn't cost you anything extra when you've got an unlimited card.

The only problem I have in the City is fighting the tourists. They don't know where they're going, don't know how to get there and expects everybody to be on their timetable.

We often take the #7 TO SIXTH Ave. or EIGTH Ave....a bit more of a hike from Grand Central. Riding in an air conditioned train in August is a LOT more pleasant than the broiling sidewalks.
