Does the actual city of NY still have a large PR community? I hear that East Harlem which was known as their enclave is losing its PR people and more latinos from central and south america are coming in. I know the DR community has Washington Heights, and many parts of the South Bronx. I have not heard of any PR nabes in the outer boros. I do know there are PR communities out in NJ, and Conn, and Philly.
They are still one of the cities largest ethnic groups. Its not like they all dissappeared one night.
Because their community indirectly yielded such talent as the late Big Punisher & the Terror Squad (including singer Tony Sunshine) as well as Fat Joe, Jennifer Lopez, rapper Noreaga (he's half PR), NBA player Carmelo Anthony (half PR), Melo's wife LaLa Anthony (yum! Cheerios!!!), etc. etc.
Lol. I just couldn't resist. I'm actually from Chicago though, where the largely Puerto Rican "Latin Kings" gang originated. Chicago also has a PR day parade that revolves largely around the PR-dominated Humboldt Park neighborhood.

It is interesting that areas like East Harlem and the South Bronx are no longer the Puerto Rican enclaves they used to be. I don't believe many Puerto Ricans from the island are moving to NYC. I hear about 3rd generation Puerto Ricans moving to places like Orlando, Allentown PA, and Waterbury CT. And I assume many 3rd generation Puerto Ricans marry non-Puerto Ricans. After a few generations, the Spanish language is lost, and there is a much smalller tie to the culture.
Meanwhile, more and more Mexicans move to NYC.
Kind of rambling here. But this is the story of NYC. Groups move in, groups move out, and are replaced by other groups.
