I have been on here for over a year and all posts have been related
to waiting for an apartment to become available. You really need to
talk to locals in your neighborhood or muster up the money for a realtor.
May I suggest going to your local place of worship. The folks are usually
in tune with each other and may direct you in the right direction.

Staten Island would most likely work best -- lowest rents.
You said you're ok with virtually anywhere except Queens and Bronx, so I'm assuming you're including Staten Island in the mix.
If not, then basically you're saying you want a $1000 apartment only in Manhattan or Brooklyn?

you will not find an apartment for $1000, you may find a room in a 3 bedroom apartment for $1000 but definitely not a livable apartment in 2018 for $1000

Beggars can't be choosy. Even finding an apt in the Bronx on $1000 is hard. 2011 I got an apt in the Bronx for $1000, it is now just below $1400.
Except the Queens and the Bronx??? So $1000 in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Okay buddy, guess Staten Island and the rest of the world is where you're gonna have to look.
