Yeah, but isn't all of NYC similar? It's a dense city. I've never actually been there, but I've read about it...
No, it's not. Go to Google Maps, navigate to Eastern Queens or Northern Bronx or Staten Island and take a look at street view. That should clear things up.
I spent almost ten minutes finding my car in a mall parking lot this Saturday.
Finding street parking in Brooklyn is a pain at 10:30 PM...
Point is that they are two very different lifestyles. You make it work to the best you can. I use a blend of personal automobile, subway, bus, walking and biking to fit my needs. In most places those options are not available. I need a car, and to me it is not an inconvenience but rather a convenient alternative to add to the mix. Elsewhere I'd be lost without it, here it is a nice bonus that does not come at a financial burden since I use much less gas than if I relied on it 100% of the time.
Another person who does not live here running their mouth about something they know nothing about.
1 - New York City is *more* than just Manhattan below Harlem
2 - Even for those living in Manhattan there are a host of reasons why they would own and or use a motor vehicle.
Yes, your average Manhattan resident probably does not even have a drivers license much less own/rent a vehicle. However plenty do as evidenced by how difficult it is to find parking. This from someone who just spent >40 minutes waiting for a spot to open up on the block.
I live in Brooklyn, we have a pick-up and sedan. We also have the train at the corner if need be.
Id never give up my truck.
us brooklyn folk can squeeze into any spot, its called experience
