Hello:

I recently submitted an application for public housing. I'm hoping to get into Glenwood Houses near Ralph Ave. Is this a good development? I heard some things that are not good, but I just want to be sure. And is it true about NYCHA, meaning they won't come to fix repairs for a year of even longer? Is that really true?

Glenwood used to be pretty good, but have gone down hill in the last 10 years or so due to gang activity. With that being said, they're still way better than the majority of NYCHA in Brooklyn. And the part about the repairs are true

As of today .... how would you rate the NYCHA Glenwood Houses in the following :
Safety
Cleanliness
Druggies roaming around
Gang trouble
Private space
**if 1 was horrible and 5 was poor and 10 was amazing

Coming from someone who resides in LI but works around the Glenwood houses;

Safety: 2
Clean: 2
Druggies: 3
Gang: 2

Overall, the criminal activity over there has gotten worse.

Oh wow I'm so happy to hear from people who actually know. Google is assumed to know everything but never enough ..
I was thinking of leaving my parents place as I'm over 21 but can't afford much. Wish section 8 still were accepting applications. Anyone know any updates on that ? Really wonder how people who can't afford housing get normal , safe housing , in the area , street , and specific address of their choice. Still can't believe section 8 stopped taking applications at this time until further notice ..without a specified date of reopening it's like saying sorry were closed forever ..

Not going to lie.. Glenwood pretty much sucks. I don't live there but don't live too far from there either.

Location sucks.. no trains.. closest one is the L train which you need to take a bus to.. few choices of buses as well.

No nice restaurants really near by. It's the projects so you have your typical fried chicken spot, domino's, Mcdonalds etc..

Seems like it's getting worse as time goes on.

I grew up across the street in the side street, but moved away 10 years ago. I can tell you first hand, there is gang activity which is tied to drugs in the area. It's not the worst housing project in Bk, but it's no utopia.

IMO, set your bar higher and do more for yourself. Save whatever money you have, strive to do better and get an apartment in a decent area. Forget about section 8 and public housing altogether. Do not settle.
