Do you have very expensive furniture or just mediocre stuff? If it's just mediocre, the expense of moving with a reputable company (Allied, Atlas, United, North American, Mayflower, Graebel, etc.) is not worth it. Sell your furniture and ship your other stuff by UPS or the post office. Buy new or used in Houston.
If it's good furniture and you have a lot of other valuables to move, then use one of the previously listed movers. Interstate moves are price competitive. Get estimates and firm dates. Don't go with one of the local movers or one that promise a very cheap move and then disappears with your stuff or shows up with a demand to pay a big surcharge before they unload.
