For the second time in a week I have seen a DSNY truck cross double yellow lines and park against traffic for a pickup. This morning I saw a truck do that on Hillside Avenue, a heavily trafficked road. Does DSNY management condone this? Twice in one week seems like it is now an accepted practice.
The DSNY has been doing this for years. When I lived in Brooklyn occasionally the trucks would do their collections against traffic on our narrow 1-way street. They only did this because the ASP days matched the garbage pickup days so the truck would use the side clear of cars for ASP.
I’ve seen them do this on two way residential streets but never saw them do this on avenues with solid double yellow lines separating traffic. Hillside Avenue is a major east-west route and a DSNY truck crossed the yellow lines during rush hour to park on the wrong side of the street. Imagine a regular driver doing that in front of a cop.
Official vehicles doing official work. Nothing to worry about
