Why was New York left with the name (Amsterdam, Independence: place, America)

Can someone tell me why the name of New York was never changed after Independence as it was named after our Duke of York.... I would imagine it would have been changed right away ..

Changing the city's name back to New Amsterdam also would not have made sense.

After independence America colonist left plenty of brist British place names and British institutions intact.
