Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for places to go whitewater rafting or kayaking in NYS. I've done some google research, but I was wondering if anyone here was in the know and had some suggestions for which places are closest to NYC.

I don't have a car but know someone who does who would be most likely be going with me. However, if there's any place I can access without a car that would be a huge plus.

Many thanks.

I went on either a groupon or livingsocial deal a couple years ago, costed about $75 per person, included roundtrip transportation from manhattan to PA, a descent lunch even though we brought our own, and ofcourse instructors and equipment to go down the river....We had a huge group so it was convenient and easy.

Usually the deal is available when the weather gets better...

Thanks, I think groupon or livingsocial is probably the best option then, if I can find a deal. My online research otherwise suggested to me that I'd be paying $150 or so for a whitewater rafting trip.

The upper Delaware between Hancock and Port Jervis.

The Lehigh River in Pennsylvania. Dam releases are the best time.

There's lots of tubing on Esopus creek in the Catskills. I think it's generally too shallow for rafting.

Can personally highly recommend this company as we have been using them since 1985. We spend about a week there every summer. Great Campgrounds! These 2 links have companies we have used over the years. Loved Bob Landers though for Camping.
