Plans for a new Times Square style plaza are in the works for the Bay. Between the high rises and rumors of the Bay side restaurants being bought out, many are not happy.

I agree the area under the subway station could use some cleanup. It has been filthy for years, But this is not the place for a plaza I think.

I love how just because a person was hit by a bus, suddenly the street must be changed. Has it ever occurred to these Vision Zero puppets that maybe the pedestrian wasn't careful when crossing the street?

This is one of the rare times that the City goes against the wishes of the local community board on issues like this. According to many of the comments in the article from area residents, the result has been mostly positive.

Or maybe the bus driver was not careful in making the left turn.

I'm generally supportive of pedestrian plazas, but this one leaves me scratching my head. Its been a while since ive been in this neighborhood, but i dont remember this to be a road where cars were going fast. Also, the accident occurred at East 17th & Ave Z, but theyre closing East 15th? Moving the bus stop away from the subway station doesn't sound like a good idea either.

This part of the neighborhood will be a mess in the coming years, there are a few high rise condos being built, its going to get real congested.

I don't like the road change because of the way DOT did it without warning using cones that have been moved around, but the truth is, making the traffic pattern simpler will make it easier for everyone. They need to get rid of the cab drivers standing infront of the train, they take up a lot of the road and cause traffic.

This project needs more organization...
