.......When heading to CI, bus or car, give about 45 minutes, due to the bridge construction. And yesterday was much more crowded than I've seen, even on July 4 weekends!

One cannot understand why folk there objected to the bridge design put forth be the previous administration. Did that design really take away the beauty of the neighborhood and lower property values?

Now, one can agree, the way the previous mayor attempted to shove the proposal down the neighborhood's face was not a good thing.....! (yes, that mayor had a history of trying to 'shove it in'. See Board of Ed takeover, stop and frisk, congestion pricing, CI Bridge, etc!). But the design was not that bad, in one's opinion.....!

I don't think it has to do with the design. New construction gives them media exposure, which they don't want. I could be wrong, but that's my take on it.

I don't know much about the proposed bridge designs but in my view the big issue is that there is a one lane road into city island. A slice of park next to the road needs to be sacrificed and the road leading to the bridge should be broadened by one or two lanes. But I guess then they'd need to do the bridge over too lol. My feeling is exactly what OP said, City Island has this quaint new England feel and while they put up with the current amount of visitors they wouldn't want any kind of increase in tourist traffic that could jeopardize what makes city island so unique and different then the rest of the city.
