Hello NYC Forum:

I am currently expecting and doing research on child care options for when the little one is born since I will be going back to work at 12 weeks postpartum.

Can anyone here recommend a good small "licensed" family day care that would accept newborns? I would prefer this over the larger daycares b/c for such a small baby I think an in-apt / in-house environment is better and it would guarantee that it is only a few kids (6-8).

I have called a few in my area and have added my names to their waiting list but I'm worried that space won't open up between now and year end.

I live in Riverdale but I am very near to Kingsbridge area (1 train)/Marble Hill. Would prefer to stay above West 225th street since I work in westchester and would have to drive north after dropping the baby off.

Thanks in advance for any good leads!!!

It doesn't matter how large or small the daycare center is, there are laws based how many daycare workers per children depending upon age. For infants its 1 adult per 4 babies.
Many years ago I was a child care teacher. For a while I worked with the infants and we had 2 teachers and a max of 8 children in the room. Once your child gets to 1.5 yrs then the number of children increases per adult.

Try Caterpillar to butterflies day care. It's on Riverside Drive. I live in University heights and work in Westchester. The drop off only adds 10 minutes to my commute. They have children moving on to pre-k so they should have openings.

Also in University heights is Maria Gonzalez. This option is more cost effective and her facility offers in home care. (347)805-0160. She is located on Devoe Terrace.

Both places will accept your baby at 3 months.
