We want to visit NYC for the first time and enjoy the holiday displays and decorations. What is the difference between the week before and the week after Christmas? Is the feeling different? Are the same decorations and displays up? Is either week better than the other for visiting?

Thanks

Big time before. The weeks leading up to it are amazing, January sucks.

Definitely before New Years. The week between Christmas and New Years is still pretty good.

The week before is just so magical !!! The Rockettes, Dyker Heights, 5th Ave store display, Ice skating ( I heard. I tried three times and failed spectacularly) but I enjoy looking from the sideline.

As long as one visits before New Year's Day, then one can see all the holiday decorations.

Before. What's the point of going to see Holiday decorations after it's already over? You'll enjoy it way more before.
The feel is very different before vs after. Also, they do get taken down quickly. Many decorations will still be up, but I think many things do get taken down immediately after. I don't know if the Christmas villages stay open after Christmas.
