FWIW, NYC is not just limited to Upper East Side or Park Slope. There are vast areas like ENY, Brownsville, East Flatbush, and >50% of the Bronx "ghost neighborhoods" in this great city that any sane person would try desperately to avoid any unnecessary exposure to even in the broad daylight of 2017. How soooo? and how can we improve this???
GOOD NEWS for those who have been wondering...Now comes the long awaited executive orders from the most beloved/hated president in America history who is going to face the problem and deal with it.
As many predicted, Trump is more of a doer, not just a big talker. He is going to change America for better by cleaning up all the criminals who don't deserve to live in this great land.
Focusing on New York's crime would be a waste of his time and would cost him a lot of political capitol. New York is doing relatively well in terms of crime and drugs. If he wants to fight a crime war, do it in chicago and detroit. What he should probably focus on is real estate if he wants to focus here.
But these executive orders just seem like right wing populist talk with some Trump/Bannon agenda sprinkled in.
This administration is a complete joke. The only thing he is "doing" is pissing off most of the country with his total disregard of the constitution and consitant lying. Even people in his own party are starting to question his mental health because of his extreme focus on crack pot unproven theories.
Are you one of those delusional Trump supporters so uninformed not to know that Trump's rants about rampant crime are part of his self-aggrandizing myth?
By the way, do you understand that Trump's penchant for "doing" is at heart un-American and un-democratic?

You got to watch and learn to judge his comments and actions more objectively instead of denying whatever he proposes and orders. It is detrimental for your own mental health in the long run as you see things continue to improve in America that contradicts your wrongful judgement over and over again.

Drug abuse is a from of crime and unless you live in a vacuum you would have been aware of the drug problems at home and nationwide.

This is true, but I think most people are more concerned with the kind of violent crime that effects more people. While drug dealing in the projects is definitely a crime, most of the people who are victims of drug-related violence in NYC put themselves in that situation, whereas in many other cities, being a random victim of a robbery or shooting is a lot more common than it is in New York, and that should be of much greater priority for tackling, in my opinion.
I do live in a very drug-infested neighborhood (East Harlem) but myself other people I've spoken to who live around the area seem to agree (and our experiences living here confirm) that if you don't get involved in doing, buying, or selling drugs, you are not very likely to get caught up in anything, unless you are unfortunate enough to live in certain NYCHA buildings
