Census Report Shows Hispanic Population Leveling Off
August 15, 2007
According to a new census report released last week, for the first time in decades, the city's Hispanic population is no longer growing by leaps and bounds – it's actually leveling off. NY1’s Dean Meminger

I think everyone knows that the Puerto Rican population has declined, and is continuing to decline. I read a few months that Dominican birth rates fell 7%, whatever that means.
Who knows? Maybe it's time for Asians to take over.

That still doesn't mean that the Dominican population is shrinking or at a standstill. Many are trying to get to New York. Illegal marriages, stowaways, by boat to Florida then by I-95 to NYC, so on and so forth...
A Lot of the Hispanic population are moving to the cities that surround New York. Such as Paterson (big Dominican population) Elizabeth, Newark, Passaic, etc.
For every Hispanic who moves out of New York City, there will be two or three coming in, or trying to make it. I've been hearing more Spanish in the streets than English since I moved here, and I can only assume we'll get more of the same in years to come.
I wouldn't be alarmed that NYC is in danger of losing population overall due to this. I think for every person that leaves, several more move in. Price is probably causing most people to leave--housing is #1, of course.
Like everyone else, NY Latinos are seeking the American dream, which comes at a high price in the 5 boros. As many Puerto Ricans have moved to places as diverse as NJ, PA and FL, the Mexicans, Dominicans & South Americans replacing them will eventually do the same.
