Has anyone else received a letter (on yellow paper) from Clean Energy Option, offering the option to replenish the electricity you use with renewable solar and wind sources? We live in a rental building, why do they send it to tenants instead of the building owner? Not making sense? Wouldn't the whole building use the same, switch or not? Should I ignore the letter?
(it says not change of billing etc, just need your ConEd account number)
That doesn't explain my question: wouldn't the whole building use the same type of supply? How could you and your next door neighbor have different electricity supplies?
I received one this week. The tell you it cost nothing to switch, which is true. What they don't tell you is if you want to switch back to Con Ed you would have to pay a fee. And you will want to go back to Con Ed when you find out that you will be paying more for your electricity as time goes on.
The electricity comes in the building the same way it does from Con Ed, you would only be changing who gets paid for it, either Con Ed for electricity from their sources or an Esco from where ever they are buying it.
Ignore the letter.

Not sure of the validity of this website, but it does seem to address your question:
do not do it!!
it is not cheaper than con ed!!
electricity is electricity, just stay with con ed!!
A friend did it, and it wound up being double what the con ed bill was. They claim over the long run it will be cheaper. Who is thinking about 10 years from now, you might not even be alive. morbid, but possible.
