I am a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker (from Brooklyn) who is seriously considering moving to southeastern Vermont.
Its pretty but to slow paced for my taste
I was working in Bellows Falls and started go stir crazy in 2 weeks. Its freezing cold in August and evething you do you need to Drive 10+ miles. Freight trains come through and shake your house for 30 minutes at 5AM they must be 10 miles long.
A friend of mine once did summer stock in Maine and found herself irritated by the slowness there.
Living and working in Brooklyn, I don't have the frenetic pace that people do in Manhattan, even though the traffic is getting more and more congested.
I am not interested in a tiny and/or isolated place. I need the stimulation, social contact and convenience of a place like Brattleboro or Burlington.
But I do not need or want a frenetic place.
By the way, I've heard that when people are used to trains going by during the night, they can't sleep if the trains don't come.
