Have any of you been to the bath house on 268 E 10th St?
I went to NY last year and took a Mafia themed tour and we walked passed that. I saw the reviews on Yelp but wanted to hear from people on here. Is it fairly clean? Are women out of place? The owners seem like characters deliberately avoiding each other.

I've been several times. There are plenty of women who go by themselves or in groups, so that shouldn't be a concern. The bathhouse portions are clean, though the locker rooms are a bit rundown. The plotz (where they basically beat you with a bundle of tree branches and leaves in a sweltering hot room) can vary considerably in force. For the saunas and steam rooms, the top benches are much hotter than the bottom ones. I would say just observe what others do and follow suit. I recommend eating the pelmenis there and pretty much any soup dish they have. There's also a small rooftop deck to sit around if the weather's right.

What are Boris and David like?
On the female only days, are they many Orthrodox women?
Japanese bathhouses are everywhere in Japan. Traditionally an entire family would bathe together to enjoy some family time. Most Japanese don't have megasize houses so their bathrooms are minuscule compared to ours. It's not uncommon for many Japanese to simply bathe at the local bathhouse daily.

They're fine and not really that much of a presence.
I haven't been to any of the female only days, so I don't know. The days I've gone have been co-ed.
