Our prisons are already overcrowded

Why do we need to keep arresting more people and putting them in jail?

The real question is will these busts finally start cleaning up areas like the South Bronx? The place is *hot* with gangs and drug peddlers. Remember when Harlem was overrun with drugs? Saw several middle aged whites walking near 135th and 5th yesterday, a known hot spot and chuckled. Have seen the cops just *living* in that area for the last few years.

Harlem is going a gentrification process. (especially West Harlem with the Columbia U projects) East Harlem is still somewhat shady on a block by block basis.

People uprooted in Harlem are probably moving to Wash Heights and Bronx.

That was my point. Not that long ago, that part of Harlem did *not* have whites walking through it, let alone comfortably. While gentrification is happening there, it is still on a *block-by-block* basis. The South Bronx still has a ways to go.

Not so fast. Washington Heights is getting gentrified itself. It is not cheap anymore!
