If someone is afraid of pigeons, would New York be a hard place to live? For a barometer, I lived in Paris and was able to tolerate that amount of pigeons, whereas Venice was far too much.
Pigeons are abundant in NYC and what’s worse - they have an attitude like they really don’t care if you are walking where they are standing and/or pecking. They are just as bad as rats if not worse. I personally don’t mind them - it’s the waterbugs here I can’t stand.
There are lots of pigeons all over the city. They really don't bother anyone unless they happen to poop on you. I don't usually eat outside but when I do they sometimes come around looking for a nibble. I just shoo them away. They are really not that much of a concern.

Pigeons are more scared of you than you are of them just saying.

Good luck in what ver you decide.
The true menace in NYC is not pigeons or rats or waterbugs. It’s the dogs and their owners laying poop everywhere. Walking around Manhattan is like dodging dogsh*t landmines and boobytraps.

I can't talk about NYC, but the city of Toronto has set up a number of nest boxes on tall buildings for red tail hawks and peregrine falcons. The birds of prey love to eat pigeons. The estimate is that there are around 100 prey birds working the downtown area. The pigeons have moved out to the suburbs.
The falcons are the fastest diving bird... they can hit 120 miles an hour. A falcon strike results in a big cloud of feathers when the falcon hits in mid air. The prey bird takes the pigeon to the ground to eat it,
Using nature to solve a problem, I like it.
