I honestly think SJW are garbage and FOS. Yes, there are problems in the society that need to be addressed and there is injustice.

But social justice warriors are not about positive change. They are about peddling victimhood and getting more "persecuted" people on their side to push whatever nonsensical, anti capitalist BS.

Could NYC have better racial relations? Yes. However, being a "minority" does not give one special privileges. Like anyone else people of color have to pay bills, buy food, etc. and there's no way if you can't pay.

It's up to the individual to take care of himself/herself and find ways to provide for his/her family.

Not denying discrimination can't happen, but if you seriously apply yourself you will find ways to move ahead in NYC. Screw the social justice warriors, and on this matter I will make some concessions to forum conservatives like G-Dale and Airborneguy.

Don't worry guys, I'm not changing my ideology and I still disagree with you a lot. However, since I value honesty about all others, yes, the social justice warriors and the poverty pimps and welfare programs have had a massively detrimental affect on NYC in terms of race relations and crime. I do think NYC was better off by having Giuliani and Bloomberg as mayors, for the PR work they did after various cleanups and attracting tourism and investment to NYC. Giuliani's clean up of Time Square got Disney to invest in Broadway, and that increased tourism to NYC and made more people want to live here. Bloomberg rezoned underutilized industrial areas for development.

The entire country would be better off without these liberal SJW's.

Wait, wasn't OP known for being an SJW on these boards?

I love that you're coming around. There is nothing wrong with being liberal but once you step over the SJW line, yikes.

I don't like to use the term SJW since the right tends to use that term to describe everyone to the left of Donald Trump, but the anti-gentrification activists who blame every last problem on the presence of white people are annoying to me.

I understand that large amounts of white people moving in will likely mean higher rents, but people have to live where they can afford and what's convenient to them regardless of their ethnicity. And as we can see with most of The Bronx, those rents are gonna keep going up with no white people. Very few white people live in University Heights and Wakefield, but rents in these neighborhoods are much higher than they were a few years ago.

I shared an anti-Trump story on social media once. Does that make me a SJW?

Man, F Giuliani and Bloomberg. Bloomberg giving himself 12 years, cause he did not like to candidates? what an ego.

And Rudy is still holding that 911 crap like he single handed took care of shhh! Look what happened with his boy Bernie, so much trust given. Rudy was just a schmoozer that knew how to shmooze. The clean up actually started before he took office. Koch cleaned up graffiti, and started the campaign. Times Square was already getting cleaned up, Hotels were already being built. All Rudy did was help make room for investors, by pushing out the porn peddlers. Go walk around Times Square at night, the hustlers and bad guys are still out there. You can still buy sex.

Rudy was good at prosecuting, and cleaning up the Mob, thats why the cops liked him. Thats why the cops got away with trampling on peoples rights, especially in the hood. Broken windows was all about giving the people of the hood a stamp, in the system, for whatever they can find on you.

Until you have a crazed cop bullying you on a traffic stop, for no reason, searching your car for no reason, busting into your home for no reason, you wont understand the stuff people have to go through. Cops slapping around teenagers for fun, looking for trouble when they should be serving and protecting.

Before 911, the 90s, the cities vibe was changing, people were getting loans for homes, hard drug use took a turn to the Weed. People were seeing too many of their friends locked up for a long time, for a petty crime. People remember the crap from the 70s and did not want to go back. The Bronx was getting rebuilt.

People are not afraid of the white folks moving into their neighborhood. What they are afraid of is not being able to run a business cause of high rents. Not being able to keep things the way they were. Do you know how hard it is to find a regular coffee shop/greasy spoon? And who the F wants to pay for organic food? Dunkin Doughnuts and Key Food, not Starbucks and Whole Foods.

Honestly, what annoys me most is not the "let's hate white people" bandwagon. What really bothers me is the fact that people forget that NYC was literally filled with many white neighborhoods. People think that places like Brownsville, Bushwick, or Jamaica were always minority and no white people ever lived there, when the reality is those places were very much working class white neighborhoods. People think that just because neighborhoods are brown now that brown people have exclusive right to them. First off, nobody has exclusive right to any neighborhood. Second, those neighborhoods have only been brown for a generation or two at most. For that reason I have no problem with the neighborhoods gaining more white residents (nor would I have a problem with them gaining more brown residents). It is what it is.

Change is cyclical. Chinese people came into Little Italy and now it's part of Chinatown. Maybe in 20-50 years, it will be Bengalitown or Irishtown or Nigeriantown. NYC never stays the same.

Either they don't know the history of the neighborhoods, or they'll say that that doesn't count because they white flighted themselves out. Which there is some truth too, but I don't think white people should be barred from moving into a neighborhood just because white people have fled there in the past.

For years SJW meant single Jewish woman in personal ads. Interestingly enough, the old SJW and new SJW overlap significantly.

I think the insidious problem of the newer SJW movement is that people are identified as morally privileged, elected, or presumed fit for the job now based on race .... the right race - i.e. non-white. While MLK was moving us to a point where we finally realized race does not beget or predict actions, behavior or indeed tell us anything whatsoever about a person, we pushed past the moral needle being in the center and now are telling the younger generation that race is important. That race does confer moral privilege, suitability for job, a requirement for election. The SJW movement has the white man as the epitome of evil and every other combination or race and gender on a spectrum between the white men as the devil up to saint at the other end. While that may serve some revenge/balancing the historical scales function in people's minds, it does not lead to a population growing up that sees people race-neutrally. Huffington Post, Salon etc and other liberal mainstream post about "White people" this and "white people that" - rather than ""Criminal white people this" and "Racist white people that" There is no modifier - its again race as an identifier of immorality. While you'll find "black people this" or "black people that" on the politics forum and others here, that's something we wanted to isolate and make unacceptable. But when kids read mainstream news telling you this race (white) does this and this race (white) does that - the corollary is not lost on them.

I'll guess 25-30 years down the line, though we had already started the process before it got derailed, we might get back on the track.

The people yapping the most are first generation Americans who haven't done crap with their lives. Anyone taking care of their business would realize the US is a huge country and they can live wherever they want to. The problem is ghetto people often don't leave their neighborhood. Too bad, because not leaving your neighborhood does not mean you own it or have special rights to it. Bye!
