I look forward to the second act.

Bring down the screened schools, G&T, and District 2 exclusion in Manhattan. Watch them white women clutching their pearls.

A lot of this is just talk. A lot of people who say they are going to leave, never leave. The city hasn't exactly emptied of Black people, and you do have Black immigrants. Dominicans are the largest Latino population in NYC and many of them are Black.

This has nothing to do with Asians "owning" certain schools, and the comment was out of line. He should apologize. Asians are a high percentage in those schools because they perform. Asians aren't protesting their numbers being targeted. They're protesting a policy that is discriminatory and is based on one's background rather than their merit. This is really a case of discriminating against one minority to give to another. It's absurd. A minority woman on Good Day NY who is Indian spoke out about this morning and she was 100% correct. Plenty of Asians come here broke and poor and somehow they manage to get their kids the educations that they need, so it's about sacrificing. If the DOE is so concerned about black and brown children excelling they can create more assistance for them to ensure that they achieve near or at the same levels as Asians. Ultimately the children have to want to excel and have to be given the resources to do so.

He should not apologize.

And no offense to anyone Asian, but I don't really give a damn about someone else's kids. As someone who can still vote in NY elections, I don't like the existence of elite public schools. I think everyone should go to the public school close to where they live, and however they do in school is however they do in school. If their parents don't like the local public school there are private schools or they can move.

Some of the proponets here seem to think NYC Department of Education exists solely to get whoever's children into their dream college. Newsflash, they don't.

Public schools should all have the same resources from the city, since these are taxpayer funded schools.

That's right and that's exactly why Asian Americans have the right to protest. They are paying taxes just like everyone else. You don't like the existence of elite public schools because of the percentage of black and Latino kids. Well whose fault is that? The DOE has FAILED these kids and now they're trying to blame Asian parents for it. Ridiculous. It's the DOE's job to educate ALL children and they aren't. They're graduating kids that can't even read and write properly.

For the first time since the civil war the black population in nyc is decreasing even with all the immigrants. Black immigrants, birth rates and migration to other regions has effected the population.

Black People are leaving and less are coming, the Hispanic population however is growing due to birth rates but still overall stagnant. The Asian population has increased the most in 10 years

That's not why I don't like elite public schools.

I do not care about the demographics per say of elite public schools. I don't like ELITE public schools because elite public schools have absolutely no business existing in the public school system which is supposed to be for ALL students.

Asian Americans are a tiny minority, and yes they are not the majority of voters. And in a democracy, the majority rules. And the majority of New Yorkers of any race, including Asians do not have their kids at these "elite" public schools.

Try to engage brain before typing. The Asians never ever professed too - and certainly don't act that way. This isn't legacy admissions - its Asians working their damn asses off to pass the test that's been set up for everyone - and then beating white people at it even. Its the opposite of acting like they own it - its manifesting that they will do what it takes, however much sacrifice is involved, to get in there. You think they just waltz in like they own it?

His entirely presumptuous accusation that they thought they did is disgusting. But it apparently pays off - appealing to some people who can't think back two steps in the argument.

The Black population is not necessarily decreasing.

"Black" is an invention of the US politically.

A very "Black" Dominican (ditto from other people in the Caribbean) may not always identify as Black or check that on the census. Plus a lot of forms don't let people check both Black and Hispanic.

I'm not sure if immigrants who don't yet have citizenship even bother to fill out census forms, so accounts may not be accurate.

Who cares how hard they work on those tests?

I sure don't.

The city government doesn't care either, nor does the state government and truthfully neither will the federal government.

And this is a very important lesson these kids will learn NOW.

It's not the job government to provide specialized public schools that benefit only a few students and that have no real benefit for the city.
