https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/01/n...e=sectionfront

"Over the weekend, the city department of health offered a number: It said that 820 children younger than 6 were found to have elevated levels of lead in their blood between 2012 and 2016."

"Lead can cause devastating harm in children, stunting their intellectual growth and affecting cardiovascular, hormone and immune systems."

Some of the issues among NYC's poor may be directly caused by lead poisoning. Obviously if one's intellectual growth is impaired, doing good in school may not happen. Long term ability to make good judgement calls may not be possible.

Thankfully the federal government busted the city for lying about lead removal, as well as other hazardous project conditions.

21 additional NYCHA websites will be partially privatized, and the private management, in addition to completely upgrading and refurbishing will take over management of these buildings.

I’d like to see some criminal charges pressed.

Me, too. I worked on the pediatric ward of a public hospital where some of these kids were admitted with lead poisoning. Heart breaking.

I believe NYCHA workers lied to the former NYCHA chair about the lead in the buildings. Under her leadership NYCHA was turning around

My opinion:

This is just one of many issues that has been slow to mend for years.
If problems were addressed when first reported, the city budget would
have been severely drained A direct result of incompetency with the
burden falling on the middle class taxpayer. So the minds that be decide
to spread out the repairs over the years in a crapshoot hoping no one
falls victim to lead exposure. By kicking the can side to side instead of
down the road the city budget increases incrementally with little notice
onto the middle class taxpayer. Now someone was caught with their pants down.

Glad that some one with a moral heart and gift of observation
exposed this normal behavior of covering up this one of many
sub par performances conducted and delegated by the NYCHA.

Let those responsible fall where they may.
