Yeah, government should be taxing workers, not billion-dollar businesses like Amazon which pay $0 federal taxes.

Who cares about that. The hipsters will ride 5 miles to work, drink $50 coffees and eat grass if its organically grown, and gluten free. This while still looking at their phones oblivious to all that surrounds them.

The fact that poor people will not even have a hope that a competent government could have worked out a better deal with more guarantees of social benefit matters not to them.

So they will get on their phones, do Google searches and buy their goods from Amazon, and use some form of social media controlled by FB. And yet scream that they are anti capitalism. Yes while riding to work as techs in some mega corporation, or working for a company which contracts to one of these.

Life is really interesting.

So business as usual is a tech world dominated by rich white and Asian kids while the black and Latin kids can aspire only for heath attendant and security jobs, simply because the city doesn't offer the workforce development programs based on government officials competent enough to demand that GUARANTEES need to be built in to ensure that the tax credits are deserved.

And please walk around the coffee shops in Tribeca and ask whether the demographics is fully representative of NYC.

Yep. Poaching from smaller companies and hiring people to pack and ship boxes. Preventing the box packers from unionizing as well. No incentives from government so no one can make a single demand that they ought to do better.

A smart government leverages tax incentives to force corporations to be good citizens. The fact that Cuomo/ De Bozo cut a bad deal and then the hipster communist screamed that the deal should be killed is just indicative of how sick NYC is.

What programs is Google offering to improve the skill base of the long term residents of NYC? Probably limited and surely local business in the vicinity of Google complain that their presence os killing them, as their facilities are isolated from, rather than complimentary to the services offered by these merchants. And of course the hipsters have driven up the rents in the area so that is another cross that these business have to deal with.

Anything that NYS/C can do to get Google to be more responsible. No such thing because they have no leverage over what Google does in the way that they would have had if De Bozo could negotiate properly and if the hipsters cared for people other than themselves.

They're for anyone who has the skills they need. One of the resaons they chose to come here because they felt that the people they need can best be found here. And also let's not forget the secondary jobs that will be created. Another reason they chose to come here was to have access to the media and other industries that are centered here. So firms they work with in those industries will need people too. There are also a lot of jobs that will be created to just to service a company with that big a footprint here.

The worthless NIMBYs and socialists (and I'm specifically referencing the brainless AOC and her supporters), just chased off a major engine of economic activity and growth.

Even from a tax revenue standpoint this deal was a winner. The breaks were basically a rebate on the huge taxes that the company and it's employees would be paying the city and state.

At to whether this will have a major negative fallout on the city's economic prospects down the line, that won't be known until it's too late. But it sends a terrible message to the national and international business community.

Have you any idea how exceptionally hard it is to qualify to work at FAANG/FAAMG companies??

They're entirely geography-independent when it comes to 99% of their workforce, recruiting from a global labor market.

Stop it with the Fear, Uncertainty, and Disinformation. You're not fooling anyone except yourself.

Even Bloomberg was against this!

It's all about attracting the most qualified from a global labor market. No one that "talented" is coming to NYC to live and work anywhere but NYC (Staten Island is really not NYC in lifestyle terms).

But either way, maybe Newark will get lucky.

It's really not humorous but sad how they dangle "money" in front of suckers decade after decade....

No one wants to go to Newark. Too ghetto and nothing can be done about it.
