If personA(senior, who rents a room in a friend's house) is low income, he should get New York property credit for paid rent when he files tax return. The credit is only a few hundreds (about $500) for senior.

However, landlord (who is actually personA's good friend) did not report the rental income.

Now the bad thing is: personA's NY tax return form got audited, then government will likely look into landlord's tax return to verify personA's rental spending.

How can personA quit claiming property credit, he just does not want to bring troubles to landlord.

Probably how much tax does landlord have to pay for around $6000 annual rent?

Thanks.
