Sad to see. Many were unique, but I can see where the triple combo, of high property taxes, a very high Minimum Wage, plus an extremely high Tipped Employee wage would be far too much to absorb.

You forgot to mention the massive influx of capital from around the world using NYC real estate as investment vehicles and pathways to cleaning that money up with a chain of LLCs. This has done wonders in terms of spiking rents with fairly healthy businesses with active clienteles going under when new investor landlords bump up the rents a sweet, sweet amount

Plus the bar and restaurant scene just doesn't have as much appeal with delivery services and online dating culture. Why go to the bar to meet people when u can swipe right and pole from the comfort of your couch?

People have to go somewhere for amenities. Perhaps everyone will go to LI for drinks, and food. Thus shall improve the economy of LI. It is closer to water. Or maybe AC will become a new destination for amenity starved NYCers. Its already built for that, and is intended to be such. With the new unfulfilled demand, may give AC a boost.

On-line dating still needs a neutral physical venue to kick off the festivities. So bars and restaurants are still necessary.

Opinion:
A wonderful restaurant opened in Brooklyn a few years back and had a decent crowd.
Found out they had to close up shop for no other reason than Landlord upping the rent.
Greedy.......greedy...greedy....
