The collapsed garage should be clearly replaced with housing. The garage collapsed because too many cars have been creeping into the city last couple years although it went down a little but not enough. Most of the cars in that garage were giant SUVS or EVs with the large battery cells that carry more weight to power up the vehicle.
Some scumbags are asking for more garages in NYC when there is a housing shortage. If you want to drive your car so much, move out closer to Watertown or Buffalo as you are not real New Yorkers. Once Congestion pricing passes, get with the program or get out.
The five boroughs don't want garages, they need more transit oriented housing. It's always people with cars causing the most trouble by littering, boomboxing at 2am on a Tuesday night, or just being thuggish in various forms. I seen and heard it in the West Village near my spot. The city has had enough of cars.
It's private property, the owner should be allowed to build whatever they want that fits the zoning. And there needs to be a careful constitutional examination as to what zoning restrictions can be imposed.
And the city should require all new buildings to have garage space to accommodate at least one car per apartment.

The owner was hit with with multiple violations by the city and has proven to be incompetent so he lost his constitutional rights so his decision on what he wants to do is moot.
The city got rid of parking minimums for new constructions, so owners are not required to add parking spots in walkable dense city that has 24/7 mass transit. Space for garage is taken away for space for housing, was one of the few good thing De Blasio did.
No need for housing. The more you build the more they come. People are pests. Less people the better.
Plenary of housing once you get the hell out of nyc. If you can’t afford it, beat it.
The collapsed garage in Lower Manhattan should be forced to be replaced with housing
I disagree................I think people are more of a problem than automobiles.
City doesn't need anymore garages since those people don't live in the city and are not even culturally associated with the city. That is just fact. Waste of resources and space. Automobiles are part of a bigger problem, but the sole problem the city is having.

There is no need for further garages and people can pay multiple taxes. A car pays one tax since that person doesn't even NYC and generates the least revenue for the city. But if you love your car so much, then get out of the city and move rural and work there since your tax adds little value.

Nope, only those that don't culturally belong here and don't provide value for the city.
Only people who belong in Manhattan culturally are the people who generate lots of money.
Don’t be sad you don’t have a car that needs a $500 garage.
